Book about the Amur River
The popular book "ENCYCLOPEDIA OF AMUR FISHING" (in Russian) is out of print. This is the first publication of its kind, combining scientific reliability of the material, popularity and accessibility of the presentation; the book is illustrated with many color photographs.
The author of the book, Mikhail Skopets - Candidate of Biological Sciences, a professional ichthyologist, who has worked all his life in the Far East. He is the author of hundreds of scientific articles and the co-author of several monographs about the fish of the Far East region. In addition, Mikhail has published over 150 popular articles and 5 books on travel and fishing.
This book tells about the Amur and the peculiarities of the climate and nature of its basin. It provides information about the main tributaries of the great river and about the largest lakes in the Amur Basin.
The book gives detailed descriptions of 50 species of Amur fish that are caught by angling, and tells about their fishing from the ice and during the open water period. Based on his own vast experience, the author describes in detail the use of various modern ways of fishing on the Amur River; he also cites the opinions of experienced Khabarovsk fishermen. A large chapter is devoted to ice fishing, very popular in Russia. Much attention is given to the organization of amateur trips to the wilderness of the Far East, as well as travel by boat and kayak on our rivers and lakes.
The appendices of the book contain the rules of sport fishing in the Amur River basin, the list of all the fish species mentioned in the text with their scientific names, and detailed information about the state of the environment in the Amur River basin. There are also interesting culinary tips and a list of additional reading for those interested in nature and fishing in the Russian Far East. A detailed nature calendar combines information on fishing in different months of the year and tells about the dangers that may await careless anglers on our rivers and lakes, on the water and on the river ice.
