Kamchatka, Raduga River - part 4
In the upper reaches the Raduga River looks completely different — it is flowing among the steep rocks and forms numerous, small rapids. Andrey made the fist cast of his Devil into a pool close to a cliff, and got a 2+ kg trout. In the holes beneath the rocks there were lots of dark coho of the early run. Dark coho salmon is rather strong fish. This fish had entered the Kamchatka River in August, about a month ago. The dark coho males have a big «nose» (kipe). Coho resting in the rapids are very active — they hammer the fly when they see it. The best coho fly was a pink wobbler-fly. Steller's sea eagle is a huge bird with 2,5 m wingspan; it is the biggest bird-of-prey. Steller’s sea-eagle flying off a sand bar. The valley of the upper part of the Raduga R. is coverd with larch forest. The sources of the Raduga R. are in this valley. Gulls in Ust-Kamchatsk.
